How was everyone’s Chinese New Year? I know it was a couple of weeks ago now but I thought I’d wish everyone anyway :) As a tradition we always go to the Victoria Park Chinese New Year Flower Market! It’s kind of a love/hate thing for me…cos the crowds are insane and people are so pushy/shovey but then it’s fun to see all the stupid shit they’re selling and to buy our pretty CNY flowers!

Nanz sniffing these gigantic tulips!

Kumquat / 金橘

Peonies i think?

Nanz in her new parka with a rabbit fur trim! Also, Mulberry Edie bag and Cole Haan Maliya snake skin oxfords!

I don’t know what this flower is called but when you buy it, they strip off layers of the leaves and jus throw them on the floor. Towards the end of the day, the vendors are literally standing on like a foot of those leaves!

Some weirdo disgusting sugar coated fruit i think..

Spinning fans/windmills for good luck!

Lol an example of the random shit they sell here..but I do have to commend the sellers since they are all young hard working highschool/university students!

Nanz smelling her favourite flowers that I always forget their names

Hanging plants!

Buying our cherry blossom for the new year :)

And finally on first day of CNY, our cherry blossom at home!

Pretty lucky posing in front of our baby tree

Our pretty CNY flowers

Few days before, Nanz bought us some air plants!

And finally, Obi all tired out from our intense day of playing mah jong all day!

A quick 恭喜發財, 新年快樂, 萬事如意, 身體健康, 年年有餘 and that’s all I know!

  3. Aw I need to visit one day. I always hear such great things about it but also the crazy crowds scare me a little! When my dad went back last year for CNY, he dragged the rest of my reluctant family with him because he hadn’t been in years. I love your cherry blossom tree! Soooo pretty!

  4. Happy (belated) CNY! That sounds like a lovely tradition even if it’s that ridiculously crowded. Definitely wishing it was spring in NY so that I could see flowers like those again! Thanks for sharing these photographs; Sha looks so pretty xx

  5. the first mysterious looks more like Dahlias then peonies, and for the Nanz favorite flower they are jonquilles (narcissus jonquilla)

Really fascinating how flowers are a big thing for CNY !!
    super nice pictures!

  6. Love your photography!:) Hoped on over from samishome.com! :)
